Treasurer (Board Member)

The OPEN Foundation is seeking a Treasurer to steward our non-profit’s financial health and governance. In this volunteer Board role, you’ll oversee budgeting, reporting, and cash flow, advise leadership on strategic decisions, and ensure compliance with Dutch non-profit requirements.

About the OPEN Foundation


The OPEN Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands, dedicated to advancing psychedelic science, therapy, and critical public dialogue through research, education, and community building. Since 2007, the foundation has been fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists, clinicians, and the broader public, organizing the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research (ICPR) and other educational initiatives, including ADEPT: Advanced Education in Psychedelic Therapy, a 2-year programme for future psychedelic therapists. 

The current Board consists of dedicated professionals with diverse professional backgrounds and expertise. Together, we safeguard the foundation’s strategic direction, uphold its mission, and ensure transparent and responsible organizational management. We are currently seeking a treasurer to complement our existing Board members.

Role Description – Treasurer


As Treasurer, you join the Board with the responsibility to monitor and advise on the foundation’s financial health. You monitor financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring transparency and sustainability. You are available to consult for the organisation’s leadership and financial staff to maintain sound economic practices.

Main responsibilities:

  • Monitor accurate and up-to-date financial administration.
  • Evaluate annual budgets, interim reports, and financial statements.
  • Monitor income, expenses, and cash flow, and advise the Board and the Directors / Managers on financial decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with Dutch legal and fiscal requirements for non-profit organizations.
  • Liaise with the Financial controller and administrator.
  • Advise and support the Board in strategic financial planning and risk management.

Profile and qualifications:

  • Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or a similar role (non-profit experience is a plus).
  • Knowledge of budgeting, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable translating numbers into clear insights.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of the OPENFoundation.
  • Availability to join regular online Board meetings (8 times per year) and quarterly in-person Board meetings.
