This live event offers a consciousness-expanding and drug-free listening experience through the intentional use of music for reflection, processing and meaning-making. The music will be created, guided and streamed in real-time by Mendel Kaelen (Wavepaths).
Psychedelic Listening: Beyond Deep Listening
The term “Deep Listening” was originally coined by Pauline Oliveros, and refers to a mindful and receptive awareness of sound. Because the term doesn’t capture the larger spectrum of qualities available within music we use the term Psychedelic Listening to emphasise its essentially immersive possibilities and relational foundations. Psychedelic Listening engages the listener’s entire being – somatic, emotional, autobiographical, sensory, mental and transpersonal.
Psychedelic Listening is a contemporary expression and continuation of a multigenerational long, and vastly multicultural lineage of transformative music practices. Examples can be found in traditions such as Sufi samā’s, Hindu Raga’s, Zen suizen, trance drumming and more.
The unique music compositions and listening techniques are developed by by Mendel Kaelen and Wavepaths, highlighting musical enactment as a core mechanism for bringing forth implicit patterns into conscious awareness. Through specific qualities of listening (focussing, embracing, experiencing), combined with guided reflections and a ritual container, the psychedelic listening experience intends to lower inner barriers for deeper layers of the self to be accessed, expressed, resolved, transformed and integrated.
What To Expect
