Psychedelics and Cultural Transformation

🗣 Alexander Beiner (Author and Journalist), Erik Davis (PhD, Independent Scholar)

⏰ Thursday 5 September, 8PM CET (6PM GMT, 2PM EST, 11AM PST)

📍 Online (OPEN Community Platform)

We know that psychedelics can change your mind, but can they change society?

In a time of global crisis, many believe that these molecules and medicines play a role in helping us build a new kind of world. The psychedelic renaissance has its roots in countercultural visions of a world transformed by psychedelics. However, as psychedelics go mainstream, how realistic is this vision?

In this talk Alexander Beiner will draw on his critically-acclaimed book ‘The Bigger Picture: How psychedelics can help us make sense of the world’ to illuminate the cognitive science, philosophy and sociology behind the idea of psychedelic-assisted social transformation. He’ll bust some myths, ask some hard questions and ultimately make an argument as to why psychedelic experiences can in fact lead to systemic change in a time of global crisis, if we use them correctly.
