In this Journal Club session, Iva Totomanova, PhD candidate in Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University, will present findings from her recent critical review of the benefits and harms of psychedelic microdosing. Rather than focusing on a single paper, Iva offers a broader look at the field, drawing on her group’s ongoing research into sex differences, neurodivergence, and individualized dose titration.

Microdosing has been linked to improvements in mood, cognition, and well-being, yet observational studies tend to report benefits more consistently than controlled experiments, which often show mixed or null results. Iva will explore why people respond so differently to microdosing, looking at factors such as sex, baseline functioning, neurodivergence, expectations, context, and dose, and whether current study designs capture how microdosing is actually practiced. Join us for a presentation and open discussion on moving beyond whether microdosing “works” toward understanding for whom, under what conditions, and at what dose.
